Authorities in western Missouri say a nine-year-old boy has been killed and two other children injured in a crash near Lone Jack in Jackson County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the crash happened just after 12 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of U.S. Route 50 and Lovers Lane. Investigators say a northbound 2010 Dodge, driven by 31-year-old William D. Wells of Leavenworth, pulled in front of an eastbound 2004 Ford, driven by 28-year-old Riley Greevebiester of Wichita. The Ford struck the Dodge on the driver's side.

The patrol says a nine-year-old boy in the northbound car died at the scene. His name was not released. Wells suffered moderate injuries, as did a 12-year-old boy in the Dodge. A nine-year-old boy in the Ford had minor injuries.

Wells was taken to Centerpoint Hospital, while the two surviving juveniles were taken to Children's Mercy Hospital. The body of the Leavenworth juvenile was taken to the Jackson County Medical Examiner's Office.

Both vehicles were totaled.

Jackson County deputies and Lone Jack Police assisted the Patrol.
