The driver of a 1987 Chevy S10 fell asleep on Monday morning, causing the vehicle to leave the roadway, strike an embankment, become airborne and strike a tree, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The accident occurred at 6:45 a.m. in the southbound lanes of US 65, 800 feet south of Claycomb Road, the Patrol said.

27-year-old Elizabeth P. Meador was wearing a safety device when the truck left the highway, as was her passenger, 31-year-old Kevin H. Lee, both of Sedalia.
