Two Clinton residents were killed in a two-vehicle crash that occurred on the mile long bridge on Missouri 7 Friday night in Benton County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a southbound 2012 Dodge Avenger, driven by a 44-year-old woman from Clinton was on the mile long bridge around 8:30 p.m., when the driver crossed into the path of a northbound 2013 Chevy Tahoe, driven by a 26-year-old male from Clinton.

After a head-on impact, the Tahoe struck the bridge and went over the railing and into Truman Lake.

The 44-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene by Benton County Coroner Weston Miller just before 9 p.m.

The body of the 26-year-old man was recovered from the water Saturday just before 4 p.m., by the MSHP drive team, and was pronounced dead by Coroner Miller.

Neither victim were wearing their seat belt at the time of the crash, according to the report.

Both vehicles were totaled and towed by Tolliver's.

Traffic on the bridge was limited to one lane while the submerged Chevy was recovered from the lake. The bridge was completely reopened just after 5:30 p.m.

Benton County Deputies assisted the 16 Troopers on scene.
