A Johnson County wreck sent a Chilhowee teenager to the hospital last night.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 17-year-old Tyler J. Skelton of Chilhowee was the driver of a westbound 1996 Nissan Pathfinder on Missouri 2, just east of SW 271st Road at 9:32 p.m. Tuesday night, when the vehicle traveled off the left side of the roadway. The driver then overcorrected, returned to the roadway and traveled off the right side. The Nissan then overturned, ejecting the driver. The vehicle then struck a fence and two trees before coming to rest.

Skelton, who was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, suffered serious injuries and was transported to Research Medical Center for treatment.

The Nissan was totaled.

Johnson County deputies assisted the Patrol at the scene.

Skelton was later arrested for DWI at 10:05 p.m. He was also charged with C & I Driving Causing an Accident, and No Seat Belt.
