A Russellville man died in a one-vehicle accident that occurred early Sunday morning in Cole County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrols reports that a westbound 2002 Chevy Silverado, driven by 66-year-old Daniel B. Rockelman of Russellville, was on Scrivner Road, west of North Branch Road around 3 a..m., when the vehicle traveled off the right side of the road and struck a mailbox. The driver then overcorrected, and the vehicle returned to the roadway and began to skid, then traveled off the left side of the roadway and struck trees. The driver was not wearing a seat belt.

According to the report, the crash was heard around 3 a.m., but due to heavy fog in the area, the crash was not discovered until 8:20 a.m.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene by Paramedic Arndt at 8:47 a.m. The body was taken to Freeman Mortuary.

The Silverado was totaled.
