The Sacred Heart Gremlins took the lead late and defeated Otterville 20-12 on Tuesday. The game was tied at 12 with the Gremlins batting in the bottom of the 6th when Summer Caton scored on a stolen base during Miranda Belles's at bat. Then Belles singled.

The Gremlins were boosted by Belles who went 4-5 at the plate. Belles singled in the first, fourth, and in the 6th inning twice.

After Otterville scored three runs in the top of the fourth, Sacred Heart answered with three of their own when Belles singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run, Veronica Vanegas doubled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run, and Hayden Altena singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run.

Belles got the start on the mound for SH. She went two and two third innings striking out three.

Maria Mergen came on in relief going four and a third innings getting one strikeout. Mergen recorded her first win as a pitcher.

The Lady Gremlins totaled 19 hits in the game. Belles, Vanegas, Altena, Emily McDonald, and Mergen all had multiple hits for Sacred Heart. All 10 players on the roster for SH had at least one hit in the game. SH stole 12 bases on the night with three players stealing more than one. Addie Hunsaker led the way with three.


Sacred Heart softball lost 23-1 against Lincoln Tuesday night. Miranda Belles toed the rubber and lasted four innings with two strikeouts. Maria Mergen pitched one inning in relief.

Claire Smeltzer and Alyssa Perez each had a hit in the game.
