Sacred Heart soccer fell 2-1 to Maryville after surrendering a goal in the 36th minute of the second half during the final day of the Barstow Tournament Saturday.

The Gremlins began the game extremely positive, imposing their possession style and dominating possession for long stretches.  Due to an injury to Senior Jude Rollings, the Gremlins were forced to abandon their traditional 4-3-3 formation and adapt to a 4-4-2.

Set pieces once again proved an issue for the Gremlins, when Maryville curled a corner kick into the back post for a goal.  The Gremlins fought back and Juan Fernandez won a penalty kick in the 18th minute.  Ian Viscarra stepped up to calmly convert the PK and tie the game.

The Gremlins had three breakaways in the second half, but each time the Maryville keeper made an incredible save on the ball to deny the Gremlins attacker.

Sacred Heart continues a challenging opening schedule by heading to the Clinton Tournament to face St. Paul's Lutheran on Wednesday.
