A 28-year-old Sedalia man accused of shooting a 49-year-old man in the 1200 block of East 13th on Saturday night was previously arrested on Wednesday and once in January.

According to Sedalia Police reports, Michael Ray Carpenter was arrested Jan. 25 after he was accused of damaging washing machines and removing coins at Bud's Laundromat, 301 S. Engineer. He was identified as the suspect in that incident. Carpenter was taken to the Pettis County Jail and charged with 2nd degree burglary, 2nd degree property damage and stealing.

Then on Feb. 19 at 11:48 p.m., Carpenter was again arrested after a traffic stop at 2nd and Washington for driving without headlights. According to a report, the driver exited the vehicle and was uncooperative with police. A computer check revealed Carpenter was driving while revoked. He was taken to the Pettis County Jail, where he was booked and released.

And on Saturday night, Carpenter was arrested after a confrontation at 13th and Engineer led to the shooting of a 49-year-old man, who was airlifted to MU for medical treatment of a gunshot wound.

Michael was charged with 1st degree assault, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and being a habitual drug user in possession of a firearm.

Michael was transported to the Pettis County Jail, where he was placed on a 24-hour hold.
