On Friday at approximately 2:16 p.m., Sedalia Police responded to 1601 W. 9th in reference a five-year-old child who had been shot.

While officers were responding to the residence, the child’s parents transported the child by personal vehicle to Bothwell Regional Health Center.

The victim was treated at Bothwell Hospital then transported by helicopter to Kansas City for treatment of serious injuries.

Investigators responded to the emergency room while patrol officers went to the residence. After several interviews and an extensive investigation, it appears the suspect unintentionally fired a weapon, striking the child.

Investigators arrested Byron A. Guider, 36, of Sedalia, and will be requesting the following charges:

Endangering the Welfare of a Child

Felon in Possession of a Firearm

Unlawful Use of a Weapon
