Late Sunday night, Pettis County deputies and Sedalia Police worked a vehicle accident at Main and Lamine.

The driver of the vehicle, Jeffrey Wheeler of Sedalia, drove north on Lamine, attempting to drive around a railroad barricade, striking a railroad embankment.

During the investigation, officers noticed a strong odor of an intoxicating beverage coming from Wheeler.

Pettis County was asked by SPD if they would take over the investigation and Wheeler was taken into custody by deputies. He was charged with DWI.

The Sheriff's Office asked that anyone who sees someone operating a motor vehicle while impaired or under the influence, call the Office at 827-0052 or the Sedalia Police Department at 826-8100 or dail 911.
