A Sedalia man escaped serious injury when he encountered a deer on the roadway Thursday in Pettis County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that a westbound 2014 Harley Davidson driven by 52-year-old James A. Bales of Sedalia was on Route H at McCarty Street just before 6 p.m., when a deer entered the roadway. Bales attempted to avoid a collision, skidded and overturned, ejecting him.

Bales suffered minor injuries and was transported to Western Missouri Medical Center for treatment.

Pettis County deputies assisted the Patrol at the scene.

The Harley was towed from the scene by InMotion Towing.
