If you've read any of my articles about drive-ins and the classic movies drive-ins have  been screening this summer there's a good chance you've noted my frustration over the rather limited number of films they've actually been screening. In fact, one of the most imaginative and interesting films screened this summer was Sedalia Parks and Recreation's screening of "The Sand Lot". Now they're getting ready to screen another imaginative film on Friday October 2.

Sedalia Parks and Recreation will be screening the 2019 animated version of "The Addams Family" for their outdoor movie night on Friday October 2 at Katy Park. The film stars the voices of: Oscar Issac as Gomez, Charlize Theron as Morticia and Chloë Grace Moretz as Wednesday. It also features the voices of Snoop Dogg, Bette Midler, Allison Janney, Martin Short and Catherine O'Hara.

The synopsis according to IMDB says:

The eccentrically macabre family moves to a bland suburb where Wednesday Addams' friendship with the daughter of a hostile and conformist local reality show host exacerbates conflict between the families.

While not a classic, heck, I didn't even remember hearing about this film. The casting alone piques my curiosity. I want to see it. And I suspect it's a film both kids and adults will look forward to seeing.

In a summer where our options to see movies on the big screen has been largely limited to drive-ins and park district screenings I think Sedalia Parks and Recreation has picked another interesting film to show. At least one we can't find playing incessantly on cable television.

The animated version of "The Addams Family" is rated PG for "macabre and suggestive humor, and some action." According to IMBD's parents guide there is some violence and gore, but it's the kind you'd expect in this kind of movie. The biggest concern a parent might have are scenes that might scare younger viewers.

Sedalia Parks and Recreation is planning to start the screening at 7:00PM CDT, or when it's dark enough to do so. They will have popcorn and movie snacks available for purchase. Families are welcome to bring blankets and chairs and stretch out while watching the film.
