Sedalia Police reports 9-28-16

Sedalia Police arrested Melvin Leon Jones, 41, Sedalia, on a Pettis County warrant after officers responded to Murphy USA on a disturbance call around 8:30 Tuesday night. Jones was transported to the Pettis County Jail on a $7,500 bond (cash or surety) and a Oct. 25 court date.

Brian A. Driskell, 25, Sedalia, was arrested for Driving While Suspended after a traffic stop at 2:20 a.m. Wednesday at Third and Engineer. He was transported to the Pettis County Jail, booked and released with a court date of Nov. 2.

A 32-year-old man was arrested just after midnight for trespassing at Walmart in Sedalia. According to Sedalia Police, John Roy Hicks III had been at the store earlier in the evening, and was advised that he was not allowed at the store. Hicks reportedly returned to the store, and police made contact with him in the parking lot. Hicks was arrested and taken to the Pettis County Jail.

Sedalia Police stopped a vehicle just at 2:38 a.m. on September 27, and arrested its driver after reportedly discovering marijuana, pills, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. According to Sedalia Police, 28-year-old Jimmy DC Brown’s vehicle was stopped near South Prospect Avenue and West 18th for having defective equipment and for having a not-on-file license plate. During the stop, a K9 unit alerted to the vehicle, and a subsequent search led to the discovery of marijuana, controlled prescription pills and methamphetamine. Brown was arrested for possession of marijuana and controlled pills with the intent to distribute, possession of marijuana, controlled pills, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Brown was taken to the Pettis County Jail.

Sedalia Police were dispatched to Dollar General at 2402 West Broadway around 3:30 p.m. on September 27 to investigate a complaint of shoplifting. Police say that 61-year-old Beverly Ann McCall admitted to stealing about $64 worth of merchandise. McCall was arrested for shoplifting and taken to the Pettis County Jail, then released.

A traffic stop at Washington and Pettis led to the arrest of a Sedalia man on charges of possession of synthetic narcotics and possession of drug paraphernalia. Sedalia Police report that 46-year-old Michael James Maggard was pulled over after stopping improperly at two different stop signs at 10:52 p.m. on September 27. Police say a K9 alerted to the vehicle, and a search of the driver and vehicle revealed methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Maggard was arrested and taken to the Pettis County Jail, pending state charges.
