Sedalia Police Crime Reports for the Evening of May 22, 2017
SPD crime reports 5-22-17
Sedalia Police arrested Jason D. Elwood, 37, Sedalia, after officers responded to a domestic dispute that took place at the Pettis County Courthouse, 415 S. Ohio, around 5 p.m. Friday. Upon arrival, both parties were speaking to Judge Beard inside. The suspect reportedly violated an ex parte by being within 100 yards of the victim. Elwood was taken to the Pettis County Jail, where he was booked and released.
Blake R. Clapham, 29, Sedalia, was arrested for 2nd degree trespassing after Sedalia Police responded to a report of someone screaming and yelling and trying to enter various vehicles and houses after 6 p.m. Sunday. Clapham was located behind a residence in the 1000 block of S. Vermont. After being questioned, Clapham ran from officers, and after a short foot pursuit, was taken into custody and transported to the Pettis County Jail on a 24-hour hold, pending the filing of formal charges.
Timothy P. Leary, 46, Sedalia, was arrested by Sedalia Police on six charges - 3rd Degree Domestic Assault, 4th Degree Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, Resisting Arrest, Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of a Synthetic Narcotic and Introducing Contraband into a Jail Facility – in the 2700 block of S. Stewart around 10 p.m. Sunday.
Tonnie Eugene Cook, 23, Sedalia, was arrested for 3rd Degree Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer after Sedalia Police responded to a call of a man being combative and acting crazy. Upon arrival, the officers found the man laying on the living room floor in the 1300 block of E. 15th just after 9:30 p.m. Sunday. When officers attempted to wake him, Cook reportedly got up on his knees, yelled and leaped at Officer Arnold, striking him in the leg. Cook was then taken into custody.
On Monday morning around 8:30 a.m., Harley Hursman reported that someone damaged her car with a brick in the 900 block of S. Sneed, causing two dents in the rear passenger fender of her car, causing $770 of damage, sometime between May 12-14. There have been no arrests at the time of the report.
Justin B. Stevens, 33, Sedalia, was arrested for DWI after Sedalia Police responded to a one-vehicle crash on Highway 50 near Broadway and M Highway around 7 p.m. Saturday. A witnesses said that Stevens was westbound on 50 when he crossed the centerline into oncoming traffic, and swerved to avoid a collision. The car then spun and left the roadway to the north, stopping in a field. Stevens had minor injuries, but refused medical treatment. He was transported to the Pettis County Jail, where he was booked and released. He now has a court date of July 5.
Just before 7:00 Monday morning (May 22), Sedalia Police responded to the 2000 block of West 14th Street for a report of a burglary. The victim stated that someone had come into the home and took her purse, which contained her credit card, debit card, car keys, house keys, and cell phone. The victim's medication and her granddaughter's phone were also taken. According to the report, the victim noticed an unauthorized transaction on her debit card. The purse was located in a dumpster at Denny's. No arrests have been made at the time of the report.
Around 8:40 Sunday night (May 21), Sedalia Police were dispatched to the area of South Grand Avenue and West 4th Street for a disturbance. Officers made contact with multiple witnesses and two women that had been arguing. According to the report, one subject involved was discovered to have a Sedalia Municipal warrant for an original charge of Peace Disturbance. The subject, 49-year old Michelle E Nash, was arrested and taken to the Pettis County Jail, with a bond of $93.50.
Around 9:30 Sunday morning (May 21), Sedalia Police conducted a traffic stop near 11th Street and Ohio Avenue for a stop sign violation. The report states that the driver gave a false name. The driver was eventually identified as 40-year old Gaudencio J. Canales. He did not have a driver's license. Canales was arrested for No Operators License and ID theft. He was taken to the Pettis County Jail.
Around 3:30 Saturday morning (May 20), Sedalia Police conducted a vehicle check in the 700 block of West 16th Street. The owner of the vehicle had an active FTA warrant from Pettis County, with an original charge of shoplifting. The suspect, 19-year old Gire Ngizahayo, was arrested and taken to the Pettis County Jail, with a bond of $1,500.
Last Friday (May 19), Sedalia Police conducted a warrant check in the 800 block of East 10th Street. Officers made contact with the suspect, 21-year-old Nathan M. Smith. According to the report, Smith had two probation violation warrants from Pettis County. Smith was arrested and taken to the Pettis County Jail, with a total bond of $9,000.
George R. Apel, 49, Sedalia, was arrested for Driving While Revoked after officers responded to a traffic complaint at 17th and Vermont just afternoon Friday. He was taken to the Pettis County Jail, where he was booked and released.
Harold S. Woolsey, 42, Sedalia, was arrested for Driving While Suspended and Failure to Register with the DOR after a traffic stop on a gold 2001 Ford Taurus at 13th and Harrison at 7:40 p.m. Friday evening. He was taken to the Pettis County Jail, where he was booked and released pending the filing of formal charges.
Daniel W. Bremer, 27, Sedalia, was arrested at 16th and Prospect around 10:40 p.m. Friday night for Driving While Suspended after officers conducted a traffic stop on a black 1990 Toyota pickup. He was taken to the Pettis County Jail, where he was booked and released with a June 7 court date.
On Monday morning, Carianne Chappell reported a scam to Sedalia Police. In the report, she said that she received a call from someone claiming to work for the sheriff's office and that she would need to pay money via money cards to avoid having her husband arrested on a warrant. She complied, bought $1936.12 in money cards. The suspect told her to give him the numbers off the cards, then cut them up. She later realized it was a scam and called police.
Jaleea Harris, 20, KCMO, was arrested at 3rd and Prospect just before 12:30 p.m. Monday after Sedalia Police responded to a report of an assault. Officers stopped a black Ford Fusion that was attempting to leave the scene as they arrived. A computer check revealed she was wanted on a misdemeanor failure to appear warrant. She was taken to the Pettis County Jail, where she was booked on a $150 cash or surety bond.
On Monday (May 22), Pettis County Sheriff's deputies arrested 24-year old Jesse Herd, of Dresden, for an outstanding probation and parole warrant.
