On Saturday afternoon (October 20) at 1:08 p.m., Sedalia Police received a phone call from a woman that claimed to have located an explosive device while cleaning the apartment of a deceased relative. The woman advised Sedalia Police that the device was removed from the apartment and placed near the roadway at 1802 1/2 East 5th Street.

Officers responded to the location and the caller pointed out the device in a nearby grassy area. The device was constructed out of various materials and appeared to be a pipe bomb with a detonator button attached to it.

A perimeter was set around the area and local residents were asked to evacuate their homes until it was safe to return. The Missouri State Highway Patrol Bomb Squad responded to the scene and disarmed the device.

After the device was disarmed it was discovered that there were no explosive materials inside of it. The person that constructed the device is deceased and there are no charges with the case.
