Sedalia Police Reports For October 8, 2021

Early Friday morning, Officers responded to the 1300 block of East 24th Street for a report of a vehicle theft. Karen N. Metz reported her 2003 Ford Taurus was stolen while she was working. The vehicle was recovered moments later and returned to Metz.

Officers responded to the area of East 4th Street and South Brown Avenue Friday morning for a report of a found firearm. Officers arrived on the scene and made contact with Jason Warren, who located the firearm. Officers collected the firearm and took it to the Police Department, where it was placed into evidence as found property.

Thursday evening, Officers responded to the Bothwell Regional Health Center Emergency Room, 601 East 14th Street, for a drug offense. When Officers arrived, they met with Adam Wade Schreck, who stated that he located some marijuana. The marijuana was collected and taken to the Police Department to be destroyed.

On October 6th, the Sedalia Police Department responded to the 300 block of East 4th Street for an assault report. Upon arriving, contact was made with the victim. She stated she had been physically and sexually assaulted at another location. Police went to the 1100 block of South Harding Avenue for a follow up investigation. Upon arriving, it was determined that a search warrant was going to be needed for the residence. A protective sweep was done and there were two individuals located in the house. One of the subjects had two warrants for her arrest. The first one was out of Pettis County for Failure to Appear on felony charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance with a $10,000 cash or surety bond. The other warrant was out of the City of Sedalia for a Probation Violation on original charges of Stealing. Bond on that warrant was set at $100 cash only. Carlese Lavonne Overton, 24, Homeless, was arrested on her warrants as well as charges of Sexual Abuse in the 1st Degree, felony Assault in the 3rd Degree, and Unlawful Use of a Weapon.

Early Friday morning, Officers were dispatched to the Police Department lobby in reference to a missing person. The reporting party stated that her 13 year old son went to school on the morning of October 7th, and she has not seen him since. The reporting party stated that her adult niece had seen her son late that night, but she does not know where he is at the time of the report. Foul play is not suspected.

Thursday morning, Officers took a report of found property in the lobby of the Police Department. Approximately 45 Oxycodone Hydrochloride pills were located in the center console of a Lowe's delivery vehicle. The pills were placed into evidence to be destroyed.

Sedalia Police responded to the 1600 block of South Carr Avenue in reference to a dispute between a father and a juvenile Thursday morning. It was a verbal argument only and no one was injured. A juvenile referral has been completed over the incident.

Thursday afternoon, Officers responded to the 1400 block of South Ohio Avenue in reference to a suicidal subject who had injured themselves. The Sedalia Fire Department and Pettis County Ambulance District attended to the subject. The subject was ultimately transported to the Bothwell Regional Health Center for treatment. A report was made for documentation purposes.

Sedalia Police responded to the 3700 block of West 10th Street for a possible non breathing subject Thursday afternoon. On arrival, PCAD and Sedalia Fire were attempting life saving measures. A do not resuscitate order was provided, and life saving measures were stopped. The Pettis County Coroner's office was contacted. At the request of the family, the body was turned over to the Heckart Funeral Home.

Wednesday afternoon, Officers took a report of a runaway juvenile. The juvenile was later located in reference to another incident. The juvenile was returned to his parent, and a juvenile referral was completed.

Wednesday afternoon, Officers were dispatched to a hit and run accident in the 600 block of West Pettis Street. A vehicle struck the back of a 2014 Chevy Cruze while parked in the owner's driveway, and then left the scene. Kevin J. Huasupoma Mozombite stated his vehicle had damage to the rear passenger side's bumper.

Officers responded to the 100 block of South Park Avenue Wednesday afternoon in reference to a stolen motor vehicle. William Barlish reported that a vehicle belonging to him has ended up missing after he lent it to someone. The person he lent the vehicle to believed it had been stolen from the 400 block of South Grand Avenue. The value of the vehicle was estimated at approximately $700. The vehicle has not been located at this time.

Wednesday afternoon, Officers took an informational report of a vehicle taken from the 500 block of North Prospect Avenue by a subject known to the vehicle owner. The vehicle was found damaged and abandoned in rural Pettis County. Ciara Harvey, the owner of the vehicle, requested the incident be documented and no criminal investigation is being conducted at this time.

Officers responded to the 1200 block of South Vermont Avenue, Vermont Park, for a report of vandalism Wednesday afternoon. The complainant stated that juveniles had damaged property in the restroom of the park. Contact was made with the subjects. All three of the subjects were juveniles. Parents for each of the juveniles were contacted, and the juveniles were released to the parents. Referrals were sent to the Pettis County Juvenile Office.

Wednesday evening, Officers were dispatched to the 1300 block of South Barrett Avenue in reference to an animal complaint. The reporting party stated that while he was walking on South Barrett Avenue, two black labs approached him aggressively. One of the dogs bit his pants, causing a tear. The reporting party did not report any injuries and refused medical treatment.

Early Thursday morning, an Officer made contact with a wanted subject in the 1700 block of West Broadway Boulevard. The subject had three Failure to Appear warrants on original charges of Driving While Intoxicated, Speeding and Possession of Marijuana out of Pettis County and one warrant out of Johnson County. Marri S. Buckner, 24, Homeless, was arrested on the warrants and transported to the Pettis County Jail. Total bond was set at $1,850 cash or surety and $250 cash only.

Sedalia Police were dispatched to the Police Department lobby in reference to a theft Thursday morning. The victim stated that his mother took his cell phone from his room when she left the residence in the 1000 block of South State Fair Boulevard on foot.
