Six people were injured in a two-vehicle accident that occurred early Sunday morning in Johnson County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that an eastbound 2017 Nissan Rogue, driven by 28-year-old Jason Eckhart of Knob Noster, was on US 50, two miles east of Route D, around 1 a.m., when the Nissan struck the rear of an eastbound 2015 Toyota, driven by 34-year-old Narsy Sirom from Sedalia.

After impact, the Nissan traveled off the south side of the highway, striking several trees.

27-year-old Leboy Liwis of Sedalia, a passenger in the Toyota, suffered minor injuries and refused medical treatment.

Eckhart, who was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, suffered serious injuries, and was flown to Research Medical Center by Life Flight.

His passengers, 21-year-old Kathryn E. Monk of Sedalia, 22-year-old Kalie Crawford of La Monte, 29-year-old Foster P. Allen of Knob Noster and 38-year-old Bridgette D. Peters of Sedalia, all suffered minor injuries. Monk, Crawford and Allen were transported to Western Missouri Medical Center, while Peters refused medical treatment.

Monk, Eckhart, Allen and Peters were not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, according to the report.

Johnson County Deputies and Knob Noster Police assisted at the scene of the crash.
