Two people were injured in a two-car crash after a teenager fell asleep at the wheel in Lafayette County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that 17-year-old 17-year-old Daniel L. McBryar of Sweet Springs was the driver of an eastbound 2005 Toyota Avalon on I-70 at the 58-mile marker at 8 a.m. Sunday when the vehicle overtook and struck an eastbound 2010 Ford Focus driven by 45-year-old John P. Morris of Holden. The Avalon then traveled off the roadway and came to rest. The Focus struck a guardrail and overturned.

John Morris suffered minor injuries while his passenger, 17-year-old Peter I. Morris, also of Holden, suffered moderate injuries. Both were transported to Western Missouri Medical Center in Warrensburg for treatment.

Both vehicles were totaled and towed from the scene.
