SPD Announces Retirement of K-9 Charlie

The Sedalia Police Department is proud to announce the retirement of its faithful K-9 Charlie Jan. 24, 2022.

This is a time of sadness but extreme gratitude for his long service to the community.  Charlie began the department as a young dog, eager to learn and please his handler.  He attended the Little Rock K-9 Academy to learn narcotics detection with his handler Corporal Travis Lorenz.

After receiving his certifications he began working on the streets of Sedalia making countless drug busts and vehicle stops.  Over time, Corporal Lorenz worked with Charlie to become a certified tracking police K-9.  This valuable skill was used many times during his career to find people, articles thrown from vehicles, and evidence.

Charlie was a valuable part of the SPD family but his accomplishments were not just here in Sedalia. Charlie answered the call of duty many times in surrounding counties because of his ability to detect narcotics, track individuals and locate discarded evidentiary items. Charlie assisted state agencies with locating large amounts of narcotics on the interstate, manhunts locally and regionally, and even assisted with drug detection state-wide.

Charlie recently celebrated his 10th birthday and has spanned a long, successful career as a police K-9.  He is still healthy and strong but has earned the honor to retire.  Charlie will now spend his time enjoying life and will remain with his longtime partner, handler and friend, Corporal Lorenz.

With deeply honored appreciation, the Sedalia Police Department would like to recognize Corporal Lorenz and K-9 Charlie for their successful partnership and innumerable contributions to both community and law enforcement.  Charlie you are a "Good Boy!"
