Pettis County Fire Protection #1 was called to a structure fire around 5 p.m. Saturday involving multiple outbuildings that were burning near a residence at 900 North Heard, near Tower and Heard.

Upon arrival, PCFS Crews confirmed the outbuildings were on fire, along with the fire making an extension into the nearby residence.

Command was established and due to the fire load, mutual aid for one engine company from Sedalia was requested to assist.

Hand lines and two master streams were deployed as crews made attempts to perform an interior attack.

Crews found the extension of the fire had made it into the attic of the residence as crews battled the blaze.

Crews then had to back out, due to the fire load and made a second attempt at an interior attack with five fire personnel.

Both outbuildings were deemed a total loss, and the residence suffered heavy smoke and fire damage, according to Pettis County Fire Chief Mike Harding.

Chief Harding added that between the two departments (city and county) there were approximately 25 personnel on scene, with two reporting injuries, but nothing serious in nature.

Fire personnel were on scene for four-and-a-half hours.
