On Sunday at 10:40 a.m., Sedalia Police responded to the 500 block of South State Fair Boulevard for a domestic disturbance in which a male brandished a firearm. The male left the area on foot with the firearm.

A detailed description was obtained and relayed to responding officers. An officer arrived on scene and found the suspect a short distance away from the original call location. The officer could see the male was carrying a firearm near his waist.

The male suspect refused all commands to stop and show his hands. The responding officer calmly spoke to the suspect, who revealed his intentions to commit suicide. The SPD officer worked to establish level of rapport with the suspect, which eventually allowed the officer to approach the suspect.

The officer was able to retrieve the firearm, which was handed to a backup officer on scene. The suspect's demeanor then quickly changed and he became combative.

Sedalia officers struggled with the suspect for a moment before gaining control and placing him onto the ground and into handcuffs. Neither the suspect nor the officers were injured in the incident.

The suspect was ultimately taken to Bothwell Regional Health Center, where he was admitted for psychiatric care.
