Two people were injured in a one-vehicle accident that occurred Friday evening in Benton County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that a northbound 2005 GMC 1500, driven by a 16-year-old female from Windsor, was on Route E at Swisher Road around 7 p.m., when the driver lost control and the vehicle traveled off the left side of the roadway. The vehicle then returned to the roadway and began overturning.

The truck continued rolling off the right side and into a cornfield. Both occupants were ejected from the vehicle. Neither were wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, according to the report.

Both the juvenile and her passenger, 25-year-old Thomas A. Swaitek of Clinton, suffered serious injuries. Both were flown to University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia for treatment.

The GMC was totaled.
