
Warsaw Teen Killed in Benton County Crash
A Warsaw teen was killed in a one-vehicle accident that occurred Sunday morning in Benton County.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that a northbound 2004 Saturn Vue, driven by a 17-year-old male from Warsaw, was on Jackson Avenue, north of Penn Drive in Warsaw around 3 a.m., when the vehicle traveled off the left side of the roadway, through a private driveway and collided with a parked fifth-wheel camper.
His passenger, 18-year-old Anthony Birdsong of Warsaw, was pronounced dead at the scene by Coroner Westin Miller at 3:24 a.m. The body was taken to Reser Funeral home in Warsaw.
The driver suffered moderate injuries, and was transported to Bothwell Regional Health Center for treatment.
Neither occupant was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, according to the report.
Both the Saturn and the camper were totaled.
The Patrol reports that 17-year-old Khannor C. Wedemeyer of Warsaw, was arrested for driving while intoxicated at 4:03 a.m. in Benton County. He was released for medical treatment.
Benton County Deputies assisted the Patrol at the scene.
