A Deepwater man was killed in a three-vehicle accident that occurred Sunday afternoon in Benton County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that a northbound 2009 Chrysler Town & Country, driven by 27-year-old Derrick R. Spain of Warsaw, was on Missouri 7, 839 feet south of Walking Horse Lane around 4 p.m., when the vehicle crossed the center line and struck a southbound 2012 Chevy Malibu, driven by 24-year-old Bailey C. Jelinek of Deepwater, head-on. After the impact, the two vehicles rotated and were struck by a southbound 2001 Dodge Ram 3500, driven by 63-year-old Alan C. Haverland of Deepwater.

Jelinek was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:10 p.m. by Benton County Coroner Weston Miller. Jelinek was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, according to the report.

Injured in the Chrysler were:

*25-year-old Kayla A. Rieves of Warsaw. She suffered serious injuries, and was taken to Bothwell Regional Hospital, then transferred to University Hospital in Columbia. She was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, according to the report.

*27-year-old Derrick R. Spain of Warsaw. He suffered moderate injuries, and was taken to Bothwell Regional Health Center. Spain was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, according to the report.

*Three one-year-old females from Warsaw. They were taken to Bothwell Regional Health Center.

The Dodge had moderate damage, while the Chrysler and Chevy were totaled.

Warsaw Police assisted the four Troopers on scene.
