A Fulton man was injured in a one-vehicle accident that occurred Thursday night in Boone County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that an eastbound 1998 Dodge 1500, driven by 30-year-old Jeffrey A. Skidmore of Fulton was on Route UU, north of River Oaks Road (west of Columbia) at 8:41 p.m., when he failed to negotiate a right-hand curve, applied the brakes, causing the Dodge to slide. The vehicle traveled off the left side of the roadway and became airborne.

The Dodge struck a utility pole while airborne, breaking the pole. The vehicle then struck the ground and began overturning multiple times.

Skidmore suffered serious injuries, and was transported to University Hospital by ambulance. He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, according to the report.

The Dodge was totaled.

Skidmore was later arrested by the Patrol at 10 p.m., and charged with driving while intoxicated, driving while suspended, careless and imprudent driving, and no seat belt.
