Sacred Heart Softball Falls to Smithton

Sacred Heart's strong offense fell short last night in a 26-10 loss to Smithton.

SH tallied five runs in the third inning, with Veronica Vanegas and Hayden Altena moving runners across the plate. Miranda Belles toed the rubber for SH, striking out one. Maria Mergen pitched in relief.

Mergen, Altena, Alyssa Perez, Belles, Claire Smeltzer and Summer Caton each collected hits during the game.

Hayden Altena hit her second home run of the season, with a grand slam in the third inning.

Sacred Heart (2-11) plays Stover (1-6) at home Thursday.

The Class 1, District 15 Tournament starts Monday at 6:30 at Sweet Springs. The Lady Grems, seeded seventh, play the #2 Smithton Lady Tigers (9-7).
