A Sedalia teenager was injured in a two-vehicle accident that occurred Wednesday in Pettis County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that a westbound 2007 Mazda 3, driven by 17-year-old Elizabeth R. Beard of Sedalia, slowed for a stop sign at 127 & Route Y at 7:33 p.m., and then attempted to cross the intersection, pulling directly into the path of a northbound 2001 Chevy Silverado 2500, driven by 24-year-old Tyler J. Cummings of Knob Noster.

The Silverado struck the Mazda on the driver's side, and both vehicles traveled off the west side of the intersection. Extrication was needed to remove Beard from her vehicle. She was flown to University Hospital in Columbia by Lifeflight in serious condition.

The Silverado had extensive damage, while the Mazda was totaled.

The Mazda was towed by In-Motion, while the Silverado was towed later at the owner's request.

Pettis County deputies and Pettis County Fire assisted the Patrol at the scene.
